Bookworm's Bedroom

Today Bookworm's balloon shade was installed in her room. I LOVE it! I've had this fabric for some time, and have debated as what type of window treatment to do. It's a rather wide window (around 74" wide), and I came up with the idea to have bookcases built on either side with a bench under the window. That'll be a project for this spring;-)

I may not have told y'all, but I've designed a few pieces of custom furniture. Here's one of them. It's a 3 piece bookcase. All 3 pieces fit into a base, then they're screwed together. Doc Lancelot and his dad made this for me. They did a great job, didn't they?

(close up of doors)

I'll probably paint both the bookcase and the chest of drawers in a lighter color. Both pieces were done when we lived in our Georgian house, also shown here. They seem a little dated with the faux finish.

I added Target's Liberty of London pieces to the blue comforter we already had.

There's still lots of finishing touches to do. There's absolutely nothing on the walls and she also needs a rug. I'm inspired to finish things up now that the adorable shade is up.

Have a great Monday!

Gray Skies

Between the drop in temperature, time change, and hazy skies, I feel like all I see is gray. The sad thing is…..I look in my closet and see lots of gray too. Gray is my “safe” color. It’s not quite your basic black, but doesn’t scream for attention either.

Here’s a few of my picks for gray fall “must haves”.

Mink Pink Basket Case Woven Sweater

Note: I would pass on the lace shorts & thigh-high tights. Instead, I would pair this sweater these and this.

FrenchiĀ® Ruffle Scarf

Frenchi Ruffle Scarf

I just ordered this scarf. It’s only $22.00 & comes in many other colors.

I 'Heart' Ronson Tank Dress

I ‘Heart’ Ronson Tank Dress

As I was going to Sephora (which is in JCPenney inside our mall), I noticed this casual tank dress. I absolutely love it. Best part? It was only $25.00. You may want to check your store because the price is higher on the website.

*Note: This line runs small. I had to get a size larger in this dress.

I wore this with a tissue tee from Target, black Spanx tights, and ankle boots.

BCBGMaxAzria Faux Fur Shrug

Not so sure about the “panty hose” top with it, but love the shug.

Old Navy Rolled-Edge Open Front Cardigan

This is part of my “momiform”—skinny jeans, a tank, and a cardigan.  Each.and.every.day.

Have a great week everyone!

Eye Candy

I was going through my pictures on Google Picasa, and realized I had a ton of great interior design inspiration photos. Sorry, but I don’t have the pictures sourced, so I don’t have any info on the designers or photographers.

Love the tufted area behind the range.

A Visit With a Dear Friend……

I’m still in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and plan on traveling back home tomorrow. Every time I come back, I have to see my dear friend “Mrs. Charlotte”. Mrs. Charlotte (Kidd) is an incredibly talented interior designer and antique dealer. Talented is truly an understatement. If you see something new and fresh in Traditional Home or Veranda magazine, chances are….Mrs. Charlotte’s been doing it for 10 years already.

I did design work and had a business when we lived here and was forever bouncing ideas off Mrs. Charlotte. We have very similar design styles~~I’d call it eclectic and “traditional with a twist”. In the 5 years we lived in Hattiesburg, I think I came to Mrs. Charlotte’s shoppe at least once a week. I usually had my girls with me and they always loved to look at all the “pretties”. I’m sure Mrs. Charlotte found shells and small figurines in every drawer of her store. ha ha

Not only is Mrs. Charlotte super talented as a designer, but anytime she plans a party and wedding, you can bet the decorations will be to die for. Every detail of her parties is executed with the greatest attention of detail. I always love to hear what she’s doing next. Today when I stopped in, she had an artist there sketching tuxedos in colored pencils and marker on outside of the groomsmen’s gifts. The gifts were wrapped in brown craft paper and had a black bow around the perimeter of the gift. You really had to see them! Again, this shows her attention to detail!

I’d love to share with you some pictures from her store Captain Kidd’s Treasure House. If you’re ever in Hattiesburg, MS, you have to stop in and see her.

Here’s the address: 5268 Old Highway 11, Hattiesburg, MS 39402-8379 PHONE: (601) 579-0207‎
