I apologize for the lengthy break from blogging. I’ve had several people ask if I’m okay….and yes, I am. I’m still dealing with these debilitating migraines. I’ve seen a new doctor and tried taking an everyday medication. I literally gained 8 lbs. in 2 weeks! I ate all the time, walked around in a constant stupor, and the worst part-headaches are still there.
So yesterday, I started taking a beta blocker. I’m not having good feelings about it. I don’t know about y’all, but I feel the less medicine you take….the better. My next plan of action after I talk to my doctor on Monday: 1) I am going to clean up my eating habits 2) See an acupuncturist and 3)Start getting therapeutic massages either weekly or bi-weekly.
Do any of you have experience with accupuncture or alternative medical treatments?
On a happier note, I’m going to host a give-a-way next week. Stay tuned….details will be posted tomorrow.
Hugs and encouragements!!!
Hope you're ok! How are your side effects from the beta blockers? Didn't work well for me - I'll keep my fingers crossed they help!
ReplyDeleteK- I'm not liking the way the beta blocker makes me feel. I read all the side effects, and have decided against taking them. I already have low blood pressure, so it made me feel horrible yesterday and today.
ReplyDeleteMy mother has a similar problem, and they cannot figure out the source, which makes it hard to figure out how to stop the migraines. She takes a preventative medicine everyday (which she does not like) and then they give her another med. for when she still gets one! It helps, but it's just like you said, being on a lot of medication never makes you feel "good"
ReplyDeleteSo D-you know I can talk about migraines all day--I have used altenate/homeopathics--something your husband may be dead set against--Chiropractics---and massages. Massages REALLY help-once a week is what I did for a long time. But I also went to a Chiropractor for several months 3 times a wk then cut back to 2 and finally weaned my self to once a week and now just as needed. Most medical professionals view chiropractics as quacks and I have to say I did for MANY years. But I also know I would rather get my neck cracked then take a bunch of meds that make me feel terrible. I took a seizure med for a few years for migraines-- yuck--not a feel good med.
ReplyDeleteSo that's my 2 or 3 or 4 cents--
Take care dear and let us know how it goes...
Lisa, I talked to hubby about all that recently and he had no problem! He just wants me to get an MRI of my neck first. I have a bulging disc in my lower back, so his only problem is having the chiropractor manipulating me with a possible bad cervical disc. The girls' yoga instructor has some really good recommendations for homeopathic people. I'm totally going in that direction. I've been off my daily medication (beta blocker & amitriptyline) for 2 days now, & I'm out of the fog. Thanks girl! Love you!
ReplyDeleteI've only had a few migraines so I cannot imagine how awful this must be for you! I hope your doctor can figure out a plan that works!
ReplyDeleteOh no! Bless your heart. I follow you on twitter, but I didn't realize that you were having migraines so often. I've had 2, and they were terribly painful. I hope that they go away soon! Feel better!
ReplyDeleteI'm a Migraine sufferer as well and I'm currently on a beta blocker as well. While I wasn't thrilled about having to take it, it has helped more than any other preventative I've tried. I've had them chronically since I was 14 and I'm currently the best I've been since then. I f I can offer any advice please let me know.
ReplyDeleteHave you considered the migraines being a hormone-related issue?
ReplyDeleteBless your heart. I'm on beta-blockers as well, two of them for a heart condition. I don't know what you have besides the migraines, but I do know that after a 2 year fight with heart and thyroid issues, I do feel better, even though I'm a walking pharmacy now. I'll keep you in my prayers and hope you get to feeling better very soon!!! Smooches!
